halftime

half time

Dead shopping trolley in the multi-storey car park

living yew trees rooted in the graveyard

open the parcel but keep the wrapping paper

diamond and amethyst are in short measure

caught in possession of a sit-down lawnmower

and a wireless radio transmitter

fat fingering the keyboard under

a thin veil moon that pierces the light

lemon rind and the hint of ginger spice

on a booze cruise with a bee shelter welterweight

a helter-skelter featherweight

dragon drops an atomic bonbon

eating a dish of dragonfly and gambas pil pil

while Forest Green Rovers are drawing nil nil

at half time, and harbouring,

death, at your diseased door

Dead shopping trolley in the multi-storey car park

living yew trees rooted in the graveyard

I see you in the rear-view mirror

you’re too busy getting your head round

the speed a woodpecker pecks

wagon wheels and segways and all that malarkey

blunted knives and broken handbags

a grapeshot soldier working his allotment

sunflower seed presidential candidate

agitating calculating a garden gate paper tiger

manipulating gesticulating art deco knight

faking hating forsaking cut my finger nails

a folded paper aeroplane makes a sonic boom

and we all witness the plankton bloom

at half time, and harbouring,

death, at your diseased door
